Provision of NMR and Mass spectra via e mail

Clients often wish to obtain NMR spectra or Mass Spectra quickly and to interpret and manipulate the data themselves.

chemiSPEC offers a service to meet this need with spectra sent electronically to the customer's desk within 48 hours of receipt of sample, often faster. A premium service, offering a 24 hour response is also available.

The customer simply specifies the nature of the service required, for example simple proton or carbon NMR spectra or other more complex experiments as detailed on the submission form. Samples are run on our 300MHz spectrometer and spectra delivered by e mail in a format to allow the client to process the data.

Spectral Interpretation

chemiSPEC has significant expertise in spectral interpretation and customers may request that spectra are delivered to them along with an appropriate interpretation of the data.

Normally clients will explain the nature of the particular problem and agree a set of experiments from which the data is interpreted.

Analysis of Complex Mixtures/ Formulations

The detailed analysis of mixtures and formulations is often difficult and generally requires careful design of experiments and the application of more than one technique.

chemiSPEC can bring to bear its expertise in spectroscopy and chromatography to help determine the nature of mixtures and formulations. NMR and MS techniques can offer insights into the make up of such samples. HPLC can often provide a separation of the components. Techniques such as LC-NMR and LC-MS can then help to identify the individual components.

Structure Elucidation/ Identification

Often customers require detailed structural information on their samples. They may be single component in which case NMR or MS can directly provide such data.

They may be multicomponent in which case a separation technique may be required to isolate the component of interest prior to spectral analysis.

Alternatively LC-NMR or LC-MS may be appropriate to obtain the required structural data.

We offer a complete characterisation service from raw sample to structure by using a wide range of analytical and spectroscopic techniques.

Specific characterisation requirements for each client and sample are discussed and considered. This allows us to tailor our approach for each individual case.

Problem solving using a wide range of techniques

Questions often arise such as:

  • My product no longer performs as normal in customer applications-what has changed?
  • My customer says my product is different in some way-is it?
  • There appears to be an impurity in my product-what is it and where has it come from?
  • My production process has changed-is there something different about the raw materials?
  • My product is a different colour to normal-why?

chemiSPEC can offer a wide range of Techniques to investigate such problems and provide an insight into what is happening. Good and Bad, Old and New products can be compared using single or multiple techniques. Impurities can be isolated and identified leading to further insights to their origin.

Method Development

In some circumstances no methodology exists for particular applications. In these cases chemiSPEC will offer to develop the methodology on behalf of the client. For example the separation of a component in a mixture by HPLC may require the use of very specific solvents and/ or columns to allow the appropriate resolution to be achieved.

In some circumstances the customer may wish to operate the method(s) in their own laboratory and once again chemiSPEC will offer to develop and supply the methodology to the client's specification.
